Please feel free to drop by for a chat at our outdoor site (weekends from 1pm till dusk are usually the best times) or join us on facebook if you would like to meet some of the members, if you have any direct enquiries please send us a message using the contact us page.

New members are only taken on at the monthly evening club meetings (indoor flying event).  This is also a good opportunity to meet other members or ask any questions you might have.

Should you wish to join the club, please download the club membership application form from the following link (right click & “save link as” to download) and bring it to the next indoor flying event.

Outdoor Site:

As we fly on public land, all members must pass the BMFA ‘A’ test to fly solo.  We do provide support for novices to get them up to passing their A-test. Take a look at the following BMFA document for more information on what is involved. Fixed Wing Power Certificates 2019

Novices must initially fly with one of our instructors. Your transmitter will be connected to the instructor’s transmitter by buddy lead, this enables control to be taken over by the instructor when the learner gets into trouble and hopefully save the aircraft from causing accident or injury (nothing guaranteed). Once you become more proficient, an assistant instructor will stand with you to offer advice and warnings allowing you to clock up ‘stick-time’ experience.  Members of a proficient level that have not yet passed the BMFA ‘A’ test must always be supervised by another qualified member while flying.
It must be emphasized that whilst the instructors will do their best to prevent crashes or damage, any consequences from such an event are borne by the learner and not the instructor or Club.

Please note that our instructors are somewhat overstretched at present with a high number of new novice members and you may not get as much flying as you would like, at present.

When you are ready to take your A-test, one of the club examiners will test you through the procedures, flying ability and ask questions about model flying safety etc.  Only after you pass will you be allowed to fly on your own.

Electric & Gas models are permitted (no turbines), models must not exceed a maximum weight of 7kg and a maximum noise level of 80db (at a distance of 7M from the aircraft).  When flying you must be in possession of your permit & insurance document. You may be asked to show proof of these by a club official or a park ranger.

Important Notes: Users of radio equipment that does not operate on 2.4ghz must supply a peg (piece of dowel) with a recent photo and your name clearly marked for use in the frequency control pegboard.

Members are only allowed to fly Helicopters after two years of continued club membership of fixed wing/Multi-Rotor and must pass their BMFA A test in Heli before being allowed to fly solo.

Members are only allowed to fly Multi-Rotors after passing their BMFA A test in Multi-Rotor. You must ALWAYS fly with a spotter if using FPV (First Person View)

Please see the club rules for more information.

Helicopters & Other Rotorcraft:

WMFC is predominately a fixed wing club although long standing members may fly helicopters & multirotors.  Two years continuous membership must be held as well as passing the BMFA ‘A’ test for fixed wing aircraft before members are permitted to fly Helicopters at the outdoor site.  Solo flight of rotorcraft again requires passing the relevant (helicopter or multirotor) BMFA ‘A’ test.

Rotorcraft are not discouraged at the outdoor site but they can cause issues, especially with larger fixed wing models taking off and landing.  Being a fixed wing club members are expected to give priority to fixed wing models & exercise common sense regarding the matter.  This is why members must have ample experience operating fixed wing models before flying rotorcraft at the outdoor site.

About The Club:

The club is run by an elected committee of members following the club constitution, an annual general meeting (AGM) is held in November where nominated members can stand for a position on the committee.  At the AGM, members can discuss any current issues, make suggestions and vote on matters regarding the club constitution.  The clubs annual accounts are also presented to members for review.  In the event of the club breaking up, any funds in the club’s possession will be donated to charity.

Membership:

All potential members must attend a club meeting (indoor flying event) where existing members will be given the opportunity to raise any objections.  You must attend with membership fee payable to the club and a complete application form.
Upon acceptance it will be the members responsibility to read and familiarise themselves with the club constitution & rules. Membership will be for a probationary period of 12 months with a review at 6 months. Failure to use the club’s facilities, any breach of club rules or any behavior not in keeping with the club’s constitution may result in loss of membership.

Club meetings are currently held monthly at Isaac Newton Academy, Cricklefield Place Ilford Essex, IG1 1FY.  Check here for up to date details on meeting dates.
